MANILA – The northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” is affecting northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies and light rains over several areas, the weather bureau said Thursday.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the Cordillera region and the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the amihan. No significant impact is expected in these areas.
The Ilocos Region and Batanes will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also caused by the northeast monsoon, with no significant impact anticipated.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will get partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms can trigger flash floods or landslides.
For wind and coastal water conditions, the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao will experience moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast to north.
The eastern section of Luzon will have moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate. (PNA)
