The Office of the Ombudsman has dismissed the case filed against Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon in connection with the construction of facilities during the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games due to lack of evidence.
According to Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said this Thursday, July 16, the dismissal of the case was contained in the joint resolution issued in December 2021 after it was proven that there was insufficient evidence against Dizon.
The statement came by following the announcement by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag that the agency is investigating alleged bidding and funding anomalies in the 2019 SEA Games projects, particularly the New Clark City Sports Complex, based on new information that has emerged.
However, Palace Press Secretary Claire Castro said that Dizon had already been investigated and was completely acquitted.
It is known that Dizon is the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), which oversaw the construction of the said sports complex.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) insisted that it respects the authority and operational independence of the NBI in conducting the said investigation./Hannah Amparo
