
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio welcomed the members of the Philippine archery team to his office on Wednesday, July 15, following their successful outing at the Singapore Youth Archery Championships held at the Bukit Gombak Stadium.
Gregorio and PSC Commissioner Edward Hayco welcomed the 21-member team consisting of 21 archers, five coaches and five officials. The athletes displayed the medals they won in the three-day competition for archers 18 years old and below.
The Philippines finished with a total of 30 medals, comprising 13 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze. Their strong performance validated the country’s progress in archery under the tutelage of South Korean coaches Ryu Su Jeng and Hong Sung Chil.
Gregorio called the team’s success the “resurgence of Philippine archery” and described their performance as a “perfect bullseye.”
World Archery Philippines President Bing Reaport said it is time to bring back the country’s success in archery and dedicate the achievement to the nation.
The tournament included teams from China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Laos, and Singapore.
On the final day, the Philippines won five more gold medals through Mariano Matteo Medina, General Marc Bangoy, Leila Jell Cano, Mateusz Vaughn Johnson, and Abigail Lim. Chass Mhavien Colas and Zac Zayco also earned silver medals in their respective events /Mary Salcedo
