
Every year, Cinemalaya is a groundbreaking film festival with the goal of supporting and advancing independent Filipino filmmakers.
With the theme “Reel Reflections,” Cinemalaya 22 will take place from August 6 to August 18, showcasing tales that examine the realities, goals, challenges, and victories that mold the Filipino experience.
Red Carpet Cinemas at Shangri-La Plaza will once again be the festival’s primary location, according to a statement from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. Gateway Cineplex is back to host festival screenings, and Ayala Malls is still a partner venue.
The competing entries this year, according to the organizers, present various viewpoints on identity, family, memory, resilience, justice, love, and modern life.

The 38th Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, the oldest independent film competition in Southeast Asia, is held concurrently with the festival. In keeping with its goal of giving up-and-coming filmmakers and alternative forms of cinema a platform, the event will include entries in the categories of Short Feature/Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, and Animation.
Cinemalaya is one of the nation’s top venues for Filipino filmmakers and original storytelling, having screened over 1,000 independent films, documentaries, restored classics, and Asian titles since its founding in 2005.
