Inday, Habagat Inflict Nearly P885 Million in Agricultural Losses Across BARMM

Admin July 20, 2026 2 min read

As of July 20, 2026. The Agricultural losses in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) caused by Super Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) and the intensified southwest monsoon, or habagat, have climbed to nearly P885 million, according to a regional disaster official.

Muhammad Farzieh Abutazil, executive director of the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi), said that as of Sunday, total agricultural damage had reached P876.96 million. The provinces of Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur recorded the highest losses. BARMM also includes the island provinces of Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.

Typhoon Inday entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on July 8 and exited on July 11, strengthening the southwest monsoon and bringing days of heavy rainfall that flooded farming communities throughout mainland BARMM.

Images released by Bangsamoro READi showed vast agricultural lands planted with rice, corn, coconut, and other crops submerged in floodwaters. Authorities have yet to issue a detailed report on crop-specific losses.

Based on data from the Bangsamoro Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform, the poultry sector suffered around P5 million in losses, while the fisheries sector sustained approximately P500,000 in damage.

Initial estimates also placed damage to roads, bridges, and government facilities at P4.1 million. One of the most severely affected areas was Northern Kabuntalan in Maguindanao del Norte, where floodwaters submerged the municipal government center and town hall compound for nearly three days.

As of Sunday, 3,225 families remained in 22 evacuation centers across several municipalities in Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Lanao del Sur. Overall, the combined effects of Typhoon Inday and the enhanced habagat impacted 127,960 families, or about 639,800 individuals, in 415 barangays throughout BARMM.

The regional death toll remained at seven, while four people were injured and six others were still missing after a landslide struck Barangay Ngingir in Calanogas, Lanao del Sur, during the early hours of July 10.

“Search operations for the missing persons are continuing,” Abutazil said.

Across Mindanao, at least 24 people lost their lives during the impact of Typhoon Inday, based on information compiled by the Philippine Daily Inquirer from official government reports /Elijah Orencia
