The Philippines’ victory over Japan, one of the strongest, if not the strongest, baseball-playing nations in the world, is almost unattainable.
However, in the 12-under class of the difficult All-Japan Championship at the Aoba no Mori field in Japan, a group of courageous young Filipino hitters accomplished what was previously unimaginable on this one incredible Monday: they defeated the formidable Japanese 8-4.
The outcome was so spectacular that Filipinos back home celebrated it with social media posts that went viral.
This heroic team is managed by Maricar Sason and coached by Darvin Reyes and Kyle Villafana.
It was one of the Nationals’ two victories that propelled them directly to the super round, where they aim to accomplish yet another feat: win the championship.
For the time being, though, the team, which is made up of players from various baseball programs, cities, and schools back home, is simply thrilled to have accomplished what had never been done before: shocking a World No. 1 Japanese team on its own priceless territory.
