LPA trough to bring rains over much of PH Friday

Admin July 31, 2026 1 min read

A large part of the Philippines is expected to experience rainy weather on Friday due to the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 2 a.m., the LPA was spotted about 1,335 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). PAGASA said the weather disturbance has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.

Despite this, its trough is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Masbate, Sarangani, and South Cotabato. Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall in these areas may trigger flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA also warned that severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods or landslides.
